This article investigates the resurgence of nostalgia in 21st-century global cinema as a response to the rapid socio-political shifts of the digital age. By examining the concept of "cinematic memory," the study explores how filmmakers utilize aesthetic markers of the past to negotiate contemporary anxieties regarding national identity and cultural heritage. Drawing on Svetlana Boym’s distinction between restorative and reflective nostalgia, the research analyzes selected films to determine how the "retro-gaze" influences public perception of history. The findings suggest that cinematic nostalgia often serves as a subversive tool for re-examining marginalized histories rather than merely romanticizing the status quo. This contribution to JLCS enhances the critical understanding of how visual media shapes our collective memory and historical consciousness.
