Abstract

As the global race for quantum supremacy accelerates, Canada has emerged as a critical node in the development of quantum hardware, software, and cryptography. This article evaluates the current state of the Canadian quantum ecosystem, analyzing the synergy between academic research hubs and venture-backed startups. The research provides a technical overview of superconducting qubits and photonic quantum computing models currently under development in Canadian laboratories. By examining federal investment strategies and patent filings, the study identifies key challenges in scaling quantum infrastructure and maintaining a competitive edge in the global market. This inaugural article for CJSTI establishes a baseline for understanding the transformative potential of quantum technologies in the 21st century.
